Write a counting pattern on the board and give children time to think about the pattern. Ask children to share their ideas and ask what the next three numbers in the pattern should be. Repeat for other counting patterns.
In pairs, children are to come up with as many counting patterns as they can and write these on a piece of paper or in their books. Children should also write a short explanation of their number pattern.
Select children to write down their number patterns on the board and have the other children try to guess what the next three numbers in the sequence will be.
